Overview
In this guide, we'll show you how to get the most out of the graphs. We have four graphs available on our platform:
- Hypothetical Return
Only available with a Pro Membership.
- Risk/Reward Scatterplot
- Underwater Chart
- Income Stream
Universal Settings
All graphs have options for you to select the date/time range you would like to show. It can be found in the top right corner of the graph, and look similar to this:
You can either select a specific interval (YTD, 1, 3, 5, 10, and INC) dating back from today or create a custom interval (From... To...). The latter is not available for the risk-reward scatterplot.
A portfolio's return history will be limited to the item with the shortest history. We offer a Show Longer History feature in our Pro Tier. This feature shows portfolio data based on the longest history available. For any historical periods where newer data is unavailable, the remaining holdings in the portfolio have been reallocated.
Hypothetical Returns
The default graph you see on the Comparison page is the Hypothetical Return Chart. This chart has three settings:
-
Starting Value
-
Target Rate of Return
-
Rebalancing Options
Starting Value
The Hypothetical Return Chart enables you to change the starting value by clicking on the Growth input (defaults to $100,000). Enter your desired value and the chart will automatically update.
Target Rate of Return
If your client has a specific target rate of return you would like to graph, it can be entered in the target rate of return input, which will show a linear return profile on an annualized basis.
Rebalancing Options
The default rebalancing is set as daily. You can change this by clicking on the Settings (the gear-wheel icon in the top right corner above the graph). Here you can also adjust the initial capital if needed.
Risk/Reward Analysis
The Risk/Reward Analysis uses a scatterplot to graph the standard deviation and return against each other. In order to access it, click on the graph menu on the left side of the chart as highlighted in the screenshot above.
Getting the Lines on the Chart
The green lines above are set when you add a Benchmark to the chart, as part of the Pro User features. Benchmarks can be added using the search bar.
Multiple Dots Graphed
In the case above, the portfolio has been expanded using the expand feature, so each individual holding is graphed in the Scatter-plot. This can be useful when looking to find sources of high standard deviation or return in your portfolio. You can learn about the expand Feature in the advanced comparisons section.
Drawdown Analysis
The Drawdown Analysis uses an underwater chart to graph all negative periods of return. Similarly to Risk/Reward Analysis, use the menu on the left side (highlighted above) to change to the Drawdown Analysis. Here you can select different date ranges, and also graph each component part to see the drawdown of the individual holdings, by clicking on the expand feature.
Income Stream
A new feature for our Pro Members is the Income Stream which will give an overview of a funds performance, along with the option to analyze how the fund has performed historically if a client were to make regular payments or withdrawals from their investment.
To add in a regular withdrawal or deposit to the investment, click the + icon in the corner of the fund details.
Once you've selected the Add Scenario or + key, you will be brought to a screen where you can select the dollar amount or percentage to either withdraw or add and the frequency. The Harvest all distributions box will take all distributions as additional income to the amount withdrawn in the scenario.
You can find more information on the Income Stream tab here.
