The CapIntel platform provides a convenient way to duplicate and manage portfolios, allowing users to create models, compare investments and save portfolios for future reference. Whether you want to replicate a portfolio or make changes to an existing one, CapIntel provides intuitive tools for these tasks. In this article we will guide you through the process of duplicating and managing portfolios on the CapIntel platform.
Creating New Portfolios
** Portfolios can be created anywhere the “Create Portfolio” button is shown. **
1. Start a new comparison. The first step is to click on start a comparison as seen in the screenshot below. From the comparison page in the main navigation If you have not already started a comparison, click the "Create a new portfolio" button. Alternatively, if you have an existing comparison or portfolio open, click the New Portfolio button.
2. Portfolio builder: The Portfolio Builder will open when you click on the button.
Here you will find six key fields to fill in:
- Portfolio Name: Enter a name for your portfolio in the top left corner.
- Portfolio Size: Enter the investment size for the portfolio.
- Advisory Fee: Enter advisory fee, if applicable.
- Search Bar: Use the search bar to find and add funds to the portfolio.
- Quick Add Tab: This tab allows you to quickly add assets to the portfolio.
Add to comparison: Once the funds have been allocated, the 'Add to Comparison' button in the top right corner will turn solid blue. Click on this button to add your portfolio to the comparison.
3. Add funds and allocation: Start searching for funds using the right-hand side of the screen or open the fund screener by clicking on 'Open Fund Screener'. Once you have added all the funds, you will need to allocate them. You can allocate in dollars or percentages, depending on your preference.
**Pro tip: Use the "Allocate Evenly" button to distribute the remaining unallocated percentages evenly across each position in the portfolio. For example, if you have five funds with 0% allocation, it will allocate 20% to each fund. **
Copying Portfolios
All copying of models and portfolio is done from inside the comparison screen.
- Bring the portfolio to the comparison screen: Start by navigating to the comparison screen on the CapIntel platform. You will see a portfolio card with a three-dot icon in the top right corner.
- Copy the portfolio: Click on the three-dot icon and select 'Copy Portfolio' from the drop-down menu. This action will open a copy of the original portfolio in a pinned view.
- Modify the duplicate portfolio From the copied portfolio screen, you can rename the portfolio and make any necessary changes. If you prefer the regular portfolio view, you can switch back to it by clicking on "Advanced Editor".
- Add to comparison: Once you have made all the changes you want, click on the blue 'Add to Comparison' button. This will add the duplicate portfolio to the existing comparison, and it will appear next to the original portfolio.
Save as model or contact: At this point you have the option of saving the duplicated portfolio as a model or associating it with a specific contact.
Saving it as a model allows you to refer to it in the future, while saving it to a contact allows you to make recommendations. You can do this by clicking on the small context menu on the portfolio card and selecting either 'Save as model' or 'Save as contact'. If you choose to save to a contact, you will be prompted to select an existing contact or create a new one.
Creating Models
To create a model on the CapIntel platform, follow the steps below:
Create a new model: Click on the "+ Create Model" button at the top right of the screen.
1. Access the Models tab: Go to the Models tab in the main navigation bar.
2. Portfolio Builder: This will open the Portfolio Builder where you can search for assets, assign weights, and make any necessary changes.
3. Save the model: Once you have finished building the model, click on the blue 'Save Portfolio' button at the top of the window. The model will now be saved and accessible from your models tab.
Managing Portfolios
CapIntel provides diverse options for saving, editing, and deleting portfolios from different tabs. Here is how to manage portfolios:
- Models tab: To edit a model, click on the three dots icon next to it and select edit model to open the Portfolio Builder. Make your changes and save.
- Contacts tab: Select a contact and navigate to the contact card. Click the contact's name and the contact card and give you access to all the comparisons, portfolios and risk profiles associated with that contact. You will see in the first tab all associated portfolios which can be brought into new comparisons or modified.
- Comparison tool: Portfolios can be modified inside the comparison as well. To do this, click the three dots in the top right corner of the portfolio card and choose "Modify/Edit Portfolio" to have the portfolio builder open. Once changes are complete, save the portfolio and the changes will be reflected in the comparison.
Adding Advisory Fee to Portfolios
Adding advisory fees can be done inside the portfolio builder modal for both new and existing portfolios. To add fees to an existing portfolio from inside the comparison, click the three dots in the top of the portfolio card and choose "Modify Portfolio".
To add a 1.25% fee, enter 125 basis points into the Advisory Fee field. This will then display as a 1.25% fee in a comparison and a proposal when you export it.
